NBME Psychometrician Joins ATP Board of Directors

The NBME is pleased to announce that Kimberly Swygert, PhD, Director of Research and Development in Professional Services, has been elected to the 2019-2020 Association of Test Publishers (ATP) Board of Directors.

The NBME is a long-standing member of ATP. According to its website, ATP "is a non-profit organization representing providers of tests and assessment tools and/or services related to assessment, selection, screening, certification, licensing, educational, or clinical uses. ATP members are pledged to promote and advance the integrity of assessment services and products and their value to society; and dedicated to the highest level of professionalism and business ethics within the test publishing community."

"I am delighted and honored to be elected to serve in this role and I'm greatly looking forward to representing the Certification/Licensure field in upcoming discussions of topics, such as new industry standards, recertification, test security, best practices and other important areas of exploration and research." she said.

Dr. Swygert is the co-editor and co-author of the most recent edition (2017) of best practices in item writing for medical educators, Constructing Written Test Questions for the Basic and Clinical Sciences. In addition to her work at NBME, Dr. Swygert has taught graduate courses in biostatistics and psychometrics for Drexel University and the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, where she is currently on an external advisory board.
